September 11, 2015
Information for media
Tomorrow, on September 12, in 400 places (pull-up points) around the world people will do pull-ups within the largest global sports and charity event of this kind named ‘WORLD PULL-UP DAY’. The event will take place simultaneously in 72 countries. Within 24 hours people will do as many pull-ups as they can thus setting a new world record and will also donate money for different charity purposes.
In 2011 Latvian Street Workout Association (founders of World Street Workout and Calisthenics Federation) organized “Latvian Pull-Up Day” for the first time. It was a one day pull-up competition in 50 cities of Latvia with super-final live on TV at the end of the day. This event collected more than 3000 participants and gained huge attention among the whole society. After success in the first year, event in year 2013 was organized in 60 cities and collected around 8000 participants (1.6% of the economically active population in Latvia) together making more than 70 000 pull-ups within one day.
In 2014 World Street Workout & Calisthenics Federations organized the first World Pull-Up Day. Last year people from 53 countries did pull-ups in 255 different locations. Within 24 hours more than 14 000 people made almost 168 000 pull-ups and donated money for different charity purposes.
This year’s goal is to raise the scale of the event and also to set up a new world record. In cooperation with the Official Partner “Record Holders Republic” the world records will be measured in the following categories:
1. “Most people doing pull-ups in 24 hours (multiple venues)”
2. “Most people doing chin-ups in 24 hours (multiple venues)”
3. “Most pull-ups (multiple venues) in 24 hours”.
4. “Most chin-ups (multiple venues) in 24 hours”
The Pull-Up exercise is good measurement of one’s physical condition, as the person uses only its body weight for exercising. It is a natural and non-injuring movement, which can be performed by people of all ages, both men and women. The advantage of the Pull-Up exercise lies in possibility to quickly exhaust the physical strength and unload the negative energy by substituting it with positive emotions for the work done.
“Simple pull-ups once changed my life completely from negative to positive and they did the same to thousands of people around me when I shared my positive changes. Now I believe that simple pull-ups can change, inspire and motivate for better everyone around the world” – Maris Slezins, Founder and Chairman of World Street Workout & Calisthenics Federation
World Pull-Up Day 2015 event offers a combination of exercising pleasure and human compassion. In September 12 people around the globe will pull-up and at the same time will do good things by donating money or goods for a specified charity purpose within their country. Even if the person currently lacks possibility to donate, his participation itself will contribute to the scale of the event and thus will help to increase the recognition of the event among people, organizations and companies in future. The charity purposes are different, such as, helping disabled persons, children, animals, building new or reconstructing of existing sports grounds, where people can exercise and unload negative energy throughout the year.
The main motto of the event is: Pull-Up for charity and every Pull-Up counts!

The plan of organizers is to attract major general and local partners that will donate money for charity (in the amount linked to the number of pull-ups made) and will contribute towards making this event the largest global strength and charity event. This year the organizers plan to set up a new world record and every following year – to beat the previously set world record.
